RLS-Sciences Overview
The Regional Leaders Summit (RLS) is a multilateral political forum of seven partner regions: Bavaria (Germany), Georgia (USA), Québec (Canada), São Paulo (Brazil), Shandong (China), Upper Austria (Austria), and Western Cape (South Africa). RLS-Sciences is a scientific and research network operating under the framework of RLS.
RLS-Sciences seeks to leverage the unique composition and strengths of the RLS network to support scientific research within and between the RLS regions. It works to generate and support academic, scientific, and technological exchanges, and the initiation of multilateral research projects. It is comprised of its scientific network, its governance and management structure, its pilot project, the Energy Network (est. 2013), and four further multilateral research projects: the RLS-Expert Dialogue on Digitalization (est. 2016), the RLS-Global Aerospace Campus (est. 2016), RLS-Small Satellites (est. 2016), and the RLS-Digital Health Initiative (est. 2020/2022). RLS-Sciences was launched in 2016, building upon the structure established in 2012 via the RLS-Energy Network.
About the RLS-Sciences Projects
RLS-Sciences operates as a scientific network, and one of its aims is to launch and support multilateral research projects with partners from across the RLS regions. The project themes were chosen based on the areas with greatest potential for innovation and cooperation, and the shared strengths of the regions. Currently, there are five projects ongoing.
The five projects are: the RLS-Energy Network, the RLS-Expert Dialogue on Digitalization, the RLS-Global Aerospace Campus, RLS-Small Satellites, and the RLS-Digital Health Initiative. RLS-Sciences Structure
RLS-Sciences exists and operates within the framework of the Regional Leaders Summit (RLS). It is designed to create a sustainable and effective framework for cooperation between all seven RLS regions in science, innovation, and research. This framework consists of three levels of coordinators in each region: Political Coordinators, Scientific Coordinators, and Administrative Coordinators. These coordinators are the first point of contact in their regions for RLS- Sciences, and are partners in the drive to launch multilateral projects and integrated scientific networking activities between and within the regions.
